In October 2024, Ungerouhi Arousyak Melkonian, the Chairperson of the Armenian Relief Society (ARS) Central Executive Board, visited Australia to celebrate 60 years of the Australian-Armenian community. During her visit, Ungerouhi Arousyak participated in a series of events across the Armenian-Australian community, engaging with members of various organisations and community leaders.:
One of the highlights of her visit was attending the interchapter meeting, where she shared her vision for ARS and introduced the key programs recently ratified by the Central Executive Committee. During this event, new members took their pledge, marking a moment of commitment to the organisation’s values. Additionally, Ungerouhi Arousyak had the opportunity to meet with all the chapter executives, engaging in direct conversations about their initiatives and activities. This allowed for valuable exchanges, strengthening the connection between leadership and the wider ARS community.
She also met with one of the founding members of ARS Australia. During these discussions, the Ungerouhis exchanged stories of the organisation’s early years and explored their shared vision for the future, underscoring the enduring impact of ARS Australia’s work.
We were fortunate to have Ungerouhi Arousyak join one of our bus trips, organised by the ARS Australia Regional Executive Committee. This provided her with a unique opportunity to connect with members of the community in a more relaxed, social setting, allowing for meaningful conversations and a deeper connection with the Australian-Armenian community. It was a wonderful chance for her to engage with members on a personal level, fostering stronger ties and understanding.
Ungerouhi Arousyak also visited several Armenian schools in Sydney and Melbourne, where ARS Australia is proud to be a key benefactor and supporter. These schools are an integral part of the community, and ARS Australia runs various award programs that help nurture the next generation of leaders and professionals. Her visit highlighted the importance of education within the Armenian community and reaffirmed the ARS’s commitment to supporting these institutions.
In addition to her educational engagements, Ungerouhi Arousyak attended a significant community event in Sydney commemorating the people of Artsakh, further deepening her connection with the local Armenian diaspora and demonstrating ARS Australia’s ongoing advocacy for Armenian causes worldwide.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Ungerouhi Arousyak for her visit, which has reinforced the central role of the ARS in fostering unity and progress for Armenians across the globe.
